On 5th October 2013 from 11am to 4pm Paisley Town Centre returned to 1697 for a unique re-enactment festival. Everyone was invited to dress in historic attire, come into town and join in the retelling of the story of the Renfrewshire Witches
In County Square behind the Piazza Shopping Centre a stage was erected and characters from the 17th century filled the streets. Actors and community groups from across the land of Renfrewshire, brought to life the events of 1697 when an 11 year old girl Christian Shaw accused 35 people of witchcraft and 7 were put to their death after being found guilty at trial by the gentry. The day culminated with a performance on stage where a narrator will took us on a journey through time back to 1697. A public procession lead us to Paisley Abbey where the day came to an end.
